The Moisturizer Philosophy

Not a filler.
A working formula.

Most moisturizers in the mid-price range are doing one thing well: occlusivity. They sit on the skin and prevent transepidermal water loss, which matters, but they rarely bring anything else to the table. The Gentle Greens was built around a different priority: stack as many functional ingredients as possible without adding weight that would make the formula unwearable under SPF or makeup.

The result is a moisturizer with a full botanical extract panel (green tea, chamomile, soybean, olive fruit), three skin-compatible oils (grape seed, safflower, evening primrose), a hyaluronic acid system for hydration retention, dual vitamin C sources for brightening, and both niacin and panthenol for barrier reinforcement. Every ingredient earns its place. Nothing is there for label appeal.

The xanthan gum and stearyl/cetearyl/cetyl alcohols give the cream its body without greasiness — these are the thickeners, not the workers. The workers are the extracts and actives layered beneath them. A small amount goes a long way: a pea-sized amount is sufficient for the full face and neck.

The Structure Ingredients
Stearyl, Cetearyl & Cetyl Alcohol
Stearyl Alcohol · Ceteareth-20 · Cetearyl Alcohol · Cetyl Alcohol
Fatty alcohols — not drying alcohols. These are the emulsion architects of the formula. Stearyl and cetyl alcohol give the cream its luxurious, spreadable body. Ceteareth-20 is the primary emulsifier that keeps the oil and water phases united. Cetearyl alcohol adds to the cream texture while also functioning as a mild emollient. None of these clog pores; all are well-studied for skin tolerance across skin types including sensitive and acne-prone.
How to Apply
After toner, before SPF.
1
Dispense a pea-sized amount
This cream is concentrated. A small amount covers the full face and neck without pilling or heaviness.
2
Warm between fingertips
A second of warming softens the emulsion and improves spreadability across the skin surface.
3
Press and sweep outward
Work from center to hairline and jawline. Gentle pressing motion allows the actives to contact skin fully.
4
Allow 60 seconds before SPF
In the morning routine, let the moisturizer settle slightly before applying sunscreen to prevent balling.
The Green Extract Trio

Three botanicals.
One shared
purpose.

Green tea, chamomile, and soybean extract all show up in skincare for different surface-level reasons — antioxidants, calming, brightening. In the Gentle Greens, they work together around a common thread: reducing the chronic low-level inflammation that underlies most skin texture concerns, uneven tone, and barrier dysfunction.

The olive fruit extract adds a fourth layer — it brings oleic acid and polyphenols from whole-fruit processing, reinforcing barrier function in a way that neither isolated oil nor isolated polyphenol can replicate. Together these four sources of botanical intelligence make the Gentle Greens more than the sum of its parts.

Antioxidant
Green Tea
EGCG · Catechins
Camellia sinensis leaf extract delivers EGCG, one of the most studied topical antioxidants. Neutralizes free radical activity, supports UV-exposed skin recovery, and is clinically associated with reduced redness.
Calming
Chamomile
Apigenin · α-Bisabolol
Chamomilla recutita flower extract contains apigenin, a flavonoid with documented anti-inflammatory activity. Works alongside bisabolol (which appears separately in the formula) to calm sensitized skin.
Brightening
Soybean
Serine Protease Inhibitor
Glycine max (soybean) extract is one of the few plant-derived ingredients with solid clinical data on melanin transfer inhibition — the mechanism responsible for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation reduction.
The Oil Phase

Three oils.
Each chosen
deliberately.

The oil phase in a moisturizer determines whether it feels rich or light, whether it's likely to break out sensitive skin, and how well it integrates into the larger routine. The Gentle Greens uses three non-comedogenic, skin-compatible oils that collectively cover softening, barrier reinforcement, and anti-inflammatory support.

Emollient · Linoleic Rich
Safflower Seed Oil
Skin Softening · Non-Comedogenic
Carthamus tinctorius. High in linoleic acid — the fatty acid most commonly deficient in acne-prone and sensitive skin. Absorbs quickly, softens without occluding pores.
Antioxidant · Lightweight
Grape Seed Oil
Texture · Barrier Support
Vitis vinifera seed oil. Exceptionally lightweight, nearly odorless, and rich in OPCs (oligomeric proanthocyanidins). Supports the skin's antioxidant environment and blends seamlessly into the emulsion.
GLA · Hormonal Skin
Evening Primrose Oil
Anti-Inflammatory · Barrier
Oenothera biennis. One of the richest plant sources of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). Particularly beneficial for skin that cycles through periods of sensitivity, dryness, or hormonal reactivity.
Emollient · Softener
Decyl Oleate
Skin Feel · Spreadability
Derived from oleic acid. Functions as a lightweight emollient that improves the spreadability of the cream and contributes to the soft, non-greasy afterfeel without adding heaviness.

The ingredients that
are doing the actual work.

Humectant
Sodium Hyaluronate
Sodium Hyaluronate
The sodium salt form of hyaluronic acid, optimized for skin penetration. Draws moisture from the dermis toward the surface and holds it there, maintaining the skin's hydration gradient throughout the day. Functions in the cream alongside glycerin to create a multi-level humectant system — glycerin at the surface, sodium hyaluronate at depth.
Barrier · Brightening
Niacin
Niacin (Nicotinic Acid)
Niacin (vitamin B3 in nicotinic acid form) supports ceramide synthesis — the lipid structures that form the skin's barrier. Distinct from niacinamide in its mechanism but complementary in function. Contributes to the formula's overall barrier reinforcement alongside panthenol and the fatty alcohol emulsifiers.
Brightening · Antioxidant
Dual Vitamin C System
Ascorbyl Palmitate · Ascorbic Acid
Two forms of vitamin C working on different timescales. Ascorbyl palmitate is fat-soluble, stable in the cream base, and delivers antioxidant protection throughout the day. Ascorbic acid is the active form — less stable but biologically potent, supporting collagen synthesis and tyrosinase inhibition (the enzyme that triggers pigmentation). Together they provide broader brightening coverage than either form alone.
Calming · Healing
Bisabolol
Bisabolol (α-Bisabolol)
A naturally occurring compound isolated from chamomile (and the primary reason chamomile calms skin as effectively as it does). Bisabolol in isolation — as opposed to the whole extract — allows for more precise inclusion at effective concentrations. Anti-inflammatory, skin-soothing, and shown to enhance the penetration of other actives it's formulated with.
Barrier · Healing
Panthenol
Panthenol (Vitamin B5)
Pro-vitamin B5, one of the most well-documented skin-healing actives in topical formulation. Converts to pantothenic acid in the skin, where it participates in fatty acid synthesis and accelerates epidermal repair. Particularly effective for skin recovering from environmental stress, over-exfoliation, or chronic dryness.
Hydration · Yeast-Derived
Glycogen & Yeast Extract
Glycogen · Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Extract
Glycogen is a skin-identical polysaccharide — it matches what the skin naturally produces for energy metabolism and surface hydration. Saccharomyces cerevisiae (yeast) extract is rich in beta-glucans, amino acids, and B vitamins. Both ingredients signal biological compatibility to skin, reducing the likelihood of reactivity and supporting the skin's own renewal processes.

Every ingredient,
explained.

Water Phase
Deionized Water
The water base of the cream. Deionized to remove mineral ions that could react with actives or affect emulsion stability. Carries all water-soluble ingredients throughout the formula.
Solvent · Humectant
Propanediol
A plant-derived glycol that functions as both a solvent (improving ingredient solubility and distribution) and a humectant. Gentler on skin than propylene glycol with equivalent performance.
Humectant · Conditioner
Glycerin
One of the most studied skin humectants. Draws moisture from the environment and deeper skin layers to the surface. Works synergistically with sodium hyaluronate for a multi-depth hydration approach.
Fatty Alcohol · Texture
Stearyl Alcohol
A fatty alcohol that thickens the cream and contributes to its rich, elegant texture. Despite the name, non-drying and non-stripping. Well-tolerated by sensitive and acne-prone skin types.
Oil · Emollient
Safflower Seed Oil
Linoleic-rich emollient oil that softens the skin surface and absorbs quickly. Among the least comedogenic plant oils available.
Emulsifier
Ceteareth-20
The primary emulsifier that stabilizes the oil-water interface and keeps the formula from separating. Allows the cream to maintain its texture throughout its shelf life.
Emollient · Feel
Decyl Oleate
A lightweight ester that improves spreadability and contributes to the non-greasy afterfeel of the cream.
Botanical Extract
Soybean Extract
Glycine max extract with serine protease inhibitor activity. Supports reduction of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation through a melanin transfer mechanism distinct from conventional brighteners.
Oil · Antioxidant
Grape Seed Oil
Vitis vinifera. Lightweight, high in linoleic acid and OPCs. Blends seamlessly without adding heaviness or comedogenic risk.
Botanical Extract
Chamomile Flower Extract
Chamomilla recutita. Contains apigenin and other flavonoids with documented anti-inflammatory activity. Works alongside bisabolol — also in this formula — for a synergistic calming effect.
Antioxidant Extract
Green Tea Leaf Extract
Camellia sinensis. Rich in EGCG catechins — among the most well-studied topical antioxidants. Supports UV-stressed skin, reduces visible redness, and reinforces the antioxidant environment.
Fatty Alcohol · Emollient
Cetearyl Alcohol
Fatty alcohol that contributes both to texture (body, creaminess) and mild emollient function. A co-emulsifier that improves the cream's stability and feel on skin.
Oil · GLA
Evening Primrose Oil
Oenothera biennis. One of the best plant-derived sources of gamma-linolenic acid, a fatty acid associated with reduced inflammatory skin conditions and barrier restoration.
Botanical Extract
Olive Fruit Extract
Olea europaea. Whole-fruit processing retains both polyphenols and oleic acid precursors. Supports barrier integrity and brings antioxidant activity distinct from the leaf or oil alone.
Humectant · Active
Sodium Hyaluronate
The penetrating form of hyaluronic acid. Maintains skin hydration by drawing moisture upward through the dermis and holding it at the surface throughout the day.
Fatty Alcohol · Texture
Cetyl Alcohol
Works alongside stearyl and cetearyl alcohol to build the cream's body. A co-emulsifier that improves the cream's skin feel and contributes to a silky, non-heavy finish.
Barrier · B3
Niacin
Nicotinic acid form of vitamin B3. Supports ceramide synthesis and barrier function. Complements the panthenol in this formula for dual barrier reinforcement.
Barrier · Protein
Hydrolyzed Rice Protein
Small-chain rice peptides that strengthen the skin's protein matrix, improve skin texture, and provide a subtle film-forming benefit that supports moisture retention.
Healing · B5
Panthenol
Pro-vitamin B5. Converts to pantothenic acid in skin where it participates in fatty acid synthesis and wound healing. One of the best-studied actives for epidermal repair.
Texture · Stabilizer
Xanthan Gum
A polysaccharide gum that provides additional viscosity control and cream stability. Also contributes mild humectant properties at the skin surface.
Hydration · Polysaccharide
Glycogen
A skin-identical polysaccharide that supports surface hydration and energy metabolism at the epidermal level. Signals biological compatibility and reduces irritation potential.
Yeast Extract
Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Extract
Yeast extract rich in beta-glucans, amino acids, and B vitamins. Supports skin renewal, provides mild anti-inflammatory activity, and reinforces the natural microbiome-friendly environment.
Antioxidant · Vitamin E
Tocopherol Acetate
Vitamin E ester — stable form of tocopherol that provides antioxidant protection within the formula itself (protecting oils from oxidation) as well as on the skin surface.
Exfoliant · BHA
Salicylic Acid
At a low inclusion rate in a moisturizer, salicylic acid functions as a gentle exfoliant and pore-clearing agent rather than an aggressive treatment. Helps maintain clarity and prevents congestion over time without the harshness of a dedicated BHA product.
Calming · Chamomile
Bisabolol
Isolated from chamomile. Anti-inflammatory, soothing, and shown to enhance penetration of other actives when co-formulated. Works synergistically with chamomile flower extract in this formula.
Preservation System
Preservation System
Phenoxyethanol, potassium sorbate, and ethylhexylglycerin. A broad-spectrum preservation blend that protects the formula from microbial contamination without the sensitization risk of older preservative systems.
Fragrance · Botanical
Grapefruit Peel Oil
Citrus paradisi. Provides the light citrus note that characterizes the Gentle Greens. Grapefruit peel oil also brings limonene and flavonoids with mild antioxidant activity.
Chelation · Stability
Tetrasodium EDTA
A chelating agent that binds trace metal ions in the formula, preventing them from destabilizing the emulsion or catalyzing oxidation of sensitive actives like vitamin C.
Penetration Enhancer
PEG-8
A polyethylene glycol that improves the solubility of actives and enhances their distribution throughout the formula and into the skin surface.
Vitamin C · Fat-Soluble
Ascorbyl Palmitate
The lipid-soluble ester of vitamin C. More stable in an emulsion than ascorbic acid, providing sustained antioxidant activity throughout the day and within the formula itself.
Vitamin C · Active Form
Ascorbic Acid
L-ascorbic acid — the biologically active form of vitamin C. Directly inhibits tyrosinase (the pigmentation enzyme), stimulates collagen synthesis, and provides potent free radical scavenging. Works alongside ascorbyl palmitate for dual-phase vitamin C coverage.
pH Adjuster
Citric Acid
Used to calibrate the formula's pH to the optimal range for skin compatibility (4.5–5.5) and to ensure vitamin C stability. Also provides mild exfoliant activity at the correct pH.

Ingredient transparency note: All ingredients are listed in INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) order, descending by concentration, consistent with FDA and EU cosmetic labeling standards. Soybean extract appears twice in the sourced ingredients — this represents two distinct processing forms. Formulas are mixed in small batches at Awaken Zen Spa in Mesa, AZ.

Six things happening
every time you apply it.

Deep Hydration
Sodium hyaluronate and glycerin create a multi-depth humectant system — moisture at the surface and drawn upward from the dermis throughout the day.
Barrier Reinforcement
Panthenol and niacin support ceramide synthesis. Three skin-compatible oils replenish the lipid matrix. The result is a stronger, less reactive barrier over time.
Antioxidant Protection
Green tea EGCG, dual vitamin C, and vitamin E create three distinct antioxidant pathways that collectively protect against daily environmental oxidative stress.
Calming & Soothing
Bisabolol, chamomile flower extract, and panthenol form a calming triad. Particularly effective for skin that reacts to environmental stress, over-exfoliation, or hormonal cycling.
Tone Brightening
The dual vitamin C system and soybean extract work together on melanin transfer inhibition — reducing the appearance of unevenness and supporting a more uniform tone over continued use.
Skin Renewal Support
Saccharomyces extract, glycogen, and low-concentration salicylic acid collectively support the skin's natural cell turnover cycle without the irritation of aggressive exfoliant products.
How to Use

The full
application routine.

1
Start with clean, toned skin
Apply after cleanser and toner while skin is still slightly damp. The residual moisture helps the moisturizer spread and absorb more evenly.
2
Dispense a pea-sized amount
The formula is concentrated — resist the instinct to use more. A small amount covers the full face, neck, and décolletage without pilling or sitting on top of the skin.
3
Warm between fingers, then press in
Body heat softens the emulsion slightly. Press into skin from center outward rather than rubbing — this distributes more evenly and minimizes pulling on the skin.
4
Morning: allow to settle before SPF
In the morning routine, allow 60 seconds before applying sunscreen. The emulsifiers in both products need a moment to avoid balling or pilling under SPF.
5
Evening: last step before sleep
In the evening routine, the Gentle Greens is the final step. Overnight wear allows the panthenol and vitamin C to work on skin repair during the body's natural regeneration cycle.
Routine Pairing
The Gentle Greens is designed to follow the Strawberry & Cream Toner. The toner's humectant base primes skin for the moisturizer's active stack — together they function as a complete hydration and treatment system. For best results, precede both with the Grapefruit Grove Botanical Wash.
